Gargoyles is an animated fantasy that aired in syndication for two seasons and on ABC for one.
A team of night-dwelling creatures, the Gargoyles (who turn to stone in the daytime), help defend a Scottish castle until an evil wizard casts a spell on them, keeping them in stone until their castle home "rises above the clouds." Millionaire David Xanatos has the castle brought to New York atop his penthouse, where they are freed from their curse but experience the culture shock of being in a modern metropolis. Helping them is New York policewoman Elisa Maza.
Gargoyles had a devout, albeit small following. Fans noted a discerned lapse in quality when the show moved to ABC Saturday mornings and production moved to Nelvana Ltd. studios in Canada.
