Plot Overview

Freshly out of a job, Sinn has gone to an unemployment office to find some new employment. The secretary at the office isn't much help, but Sinn does see a poster behind her advertising a position for Xtacles. Meanwhile, across town, Val is stocking up on guns from Mr. Ford's gun store in order to get revenge on Killface. Also, the Xtacles hold a brief funeral for Nearl before dropping his corpse out of the X-Calibur, onto the roof of the gazebo from earlier.

Barnaby and Killface have managed to escape from the action figure sweatshop with the aid of an old Chinese man, who also gave them a map, a bag of radishes and some new eyes. They set off into the sewers to find Simon and save him from the clutches of the gangster Torpedo Vegas. Incidentally, the Xtacles decide to go to the illegal underground rabbit fights and Grace Ryan decides to do an undercover investigation of the rabbit fight ring. She puts on an incredibly bad Chinese accent, but is discovered by her fake Asian dry cleaner.

The dry cleaner's ruse was found out by the Department of Labor and he was coerced into bringing down the rabbit fighting rings in exchange for his freedom. Taqui'll is also at the fights because he's doing research for a movie. While they wait for the fights to start, Killface outlines his elaborate plan to save Simon but they're stopped before they can even get through the drain by Vegas' armed bodyguards.

Allusions and References

  • Terminator: Val's exchange with Mr. Ford in the gun shop is a direct reference to the first Terminator film in which Arnold Schwarzenegger came back from the future and went to a gun store to get several guns, including the "pulse rife" which doesn't exist, as well as the store owner's clothes.
Val: Terminator? No? Nothing?
  • C.H.U.D.: While in the sewers, Xander voices his concern about a C.H.U.D. lurking in the caverns. C.H.U.D. is an acronym for "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller," it was the central antagonist in the 1984 b-movie C.H.U.D. in which a police officer, a reporter and a hippie attempt to uncover the mystery behind the sewer dwelling monsters.
Xander: I bet it's a CHUD!
