Sam Weir is a freshman at McKinley High who has a passion for Star Wars, movies in general, gaming, and other 'geeky' pursuits. He is Lindsay's brother. The siblings belong to a fairly well off and caring suburban family. He has a strong bond with his lifelong Geek friends, Neal and Bill, with whom he stumbles through many an awkward moment. The series chronicles Sam's attempts to fit into an environment (high school) where he is constantly ostracized for being a geek.
Sam is slightly built and unimposing, and is generally shy and unsure of himself; this leads to him being picked on constantly. He feels that his Geekiness is holding him back from social acceptance, and he often considers trying to embrace a 'cooler' lifestyle. Part of this desire is driven by his obsession with Cindy Sanders, a cheerleader and the girl of his dreams, whom he desperately wishes to impress.
