Plot Overview

Jennifer is in a funk with finding friends at school, other than her own nerdy friend. She becomes desperate to be popular and part of the "in crowd." Mallory helps out by telling Jennifer she needs to act and dress cool, and her advice is essentially to become a valley girl.

Jennifer takes Mallory's advice and eventually hooks up with a group of snobbish, supposedly popular girls. However, the girls prove to be a bad influence on Jennifer, and before long she is backtalking at home, staying out late and lying to her parents.

Steven and Elyse decide to throw Jennifer a birthday party, to allow the parents a chance to meet her new friends. Of course, given their track record, the party winds up being more suitable for much younger children. The snobbish girls become frustrated with the party and decide to leave. Jennifer feels she is humiliated and after getting into an argument with her parents, walks out of the house.
