Basic Information
The character of Joyce Kinney first appeared in the Season 9 episode "Excellence in Broadcasting." In that episode, she is the successor to Diane Simmons, whose character was killed off in "And Then There Were Fewer."
After appearing in several bit roles in several earlier Season 9 episodes, Kinney's first feature episode is "And I'm Joyce Kinney." Here, Lois Griffin -- one of the series' main characters -- becomes a fan of Kinney's work, and the two strike up a friendship. One night while drinking at a local bar, Lois and Kinney share intimate secrets about each other, culminating with Lois revealing in confidence that she had an abortion (referencing the unaired-in-the-United States "Partial Terms of Endearment" and (during her teen-aged years) starred in a pornographic film. Kinney breaches this confidence by airing an expose on Lois, this being revenge for a high school prank played on her years earlier.
