Fables is a drama pilot based on the comic book series of the same name published by Vertigo Comics, an imprint of DC Comics. The comic series tells the story of fairy tale characters, exiled from their homelands by a menace known as "The Adversary," living in a community hidden within present day New York City.

The pilot was officially ordered by ABC in December 2008, with Six Degrees creators Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner writing the script and David Semel directing. Bill Willingham, creator of the comics, was reportedly not involved in the pilot process, although he commented in late January 2009 that he received a copy of the pilot script. Little word has leaked out from the production of the pilot and whether or not it will get a full season commitment is unknown. Vertigo editor Karen Berger stated at a comic convention that she "[isn't] sure [Fables is] happening right now." However, unconfirmed reports on Willingham's internet forum claim that the pilot was scheduled to start filming in April or May 2009.
