Allusions and References

  • The Rules of Attraction: When visiting Dr. Emmett Meridian, Dexter uses the pseudonym of Sean Ellis. Sean Ellis is a compound reference to The Rules of Attraction, a novel written by Bret Easton Ellis. The protagonist of the novel and film adaptation is Sean Bateman, who also happens to be the brother of serial killer Patrick Bateman (notably the protagonist of American Psycho). In a previous episode, Dexter used "Patrick Bateman" as an alias to get his DEA license.
