Basic Information

Misae Nohara, is the mother of Shin-chan, the show's main character, and his sister Himawari. She is married to her husband, Hiroshi.

Misae stays at home while Shin is at school and Hiroshi at work. Misae is often joked about by Shin that she is flat-chested, or has a big rear end, or is constipated. Misae is a young mother, and gets angry frequently, prompting Shin to also joke about her having wrinkles or being constipated. Even though she is not the source of income for the family, Misae handles the finances, which usually means she gets most of the money while Hiroshi loses out, and Shin gets nothing.

Misae is occasionally attracted to other men, even though she scolds Hiroshi for also being attracted to other females.

Foreign Language Differences

No significant changes have been made to Misae's personality in foreign versions, except for a few humorous lines which magnify her feelings towards a situation (like wondering if it's too late to abort Shin). In the 90s English dub of the show from Fuse Entertainment, Misae's name was Mitsy. In the recent FUNimation dub, her name is also similarly changed to Mitzi.

Trivia

  • Misae has names for her punishments. "Genkotsu" is when she strikes Shin (or sometimes Hiroshi) on the head. "Guriguri" is when she screws her fists into Shin's head.
