Season Five of Bleach premiered on August 8, 2006. The season directly follows the previous and is subtitled "Bount Assault on Soul Society." It focuses on the villains introduced in the previous season, The Bount, invading the Soul Society. Like "The Bount," this season was not adapted from the manga and, as a result, is considered filler by fans of the series. The situations and characters created for this arc do not have significant impact on the manga-adapted storyline.
The season initially aired from August 8, 2006 to January 4, 2007 in Japan on TV Tokyo. The episodes later began airing in English on Adult Swim beginning November 30, 2008 and ending April 12, 2009.
