Blankety Blank is the British version of Blankety Blanks, which in turn was the Australian version of the U.S. Match Game which launched in 1962 on NBC and was revived in 1973 on CBS. Blankety Blank followed the premise of the CBS show.
Two contestants have two chances to predict how a panel of six celebrities filled in the blanks to comical questions. The contestant capturing the most celebrities wins the game and plays the Super-Match, which had the audience match values (as "blanks") at 150, 100 and 50. Matching a celebrity head-to-head doubled the "blanks" which led to prizes (which, by British TV standards at the time were low rent and ridiculed on the air).
The first edition of the series ran on BBC1 from 1979 to 1990. It was brought back in 1997 and ran two years. ITV-Thames picked it up in 2001 and aired it for one season.
