Arrow is a superhero drama that aired on The CW. It is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow. In 2014 a spinoff series, The Flash, premiered, and in 2016 was followed by another series taking place in the same universe: DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
Primarily filmed in Vancouver, Arrow follows Starling City billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who, five years after getting stranded on a hostile island, returns home to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow. Unlike the comics, Queen doesn't go by the name "Green Arrow". The series takes a realistic look at the character, as well as other characters from the DC Comics universe, the humanity of Oliver, and how he changed during his time on the island. Even though the Oliver Queen character was featured in Smallville, the producers decided to get a clean start and choose a new actor to play the character. Most of the episodes have flashbacks to the five years that Oliver went missing.
Arrow has received positive reviews from critics, and became the CW's highest-rated show in five years. Over the course of the first season, the show averaged 3.68 million viewers, won three awards, and multiple nominations. As a promotion, a preview comic book was released before the premiere, while webisodes featuring a product tie-in with Bose was developed for the second season.
