Plot Overview
The council of Krypton comes together to learn about the recent strange occurrences such as tidal waves and earthquakes. Jor-El, the planet's top scientist, explains that the sun is drawing the planet closer and closer, and that soon Krypton will be destroyed. The council laugh his predictions off, but soon they come true. Unable to build a spaceship quickly enough to get his family off the planet, Jor-El uses a prototype rocket ship to transport his son, Kal-El, to Earth moments before Krypton's destruction.
After some time passes, the rocket arrives to Earth, crash lands and is discovered by Kansas farmers Eben and Sarah Kent as they drive by the crash site. While investigating the rocket, Eben hears a baby's cries from within just as the ship catches fire following the crash and he throws dirt on the fire to smother the flames before retrieving the baby from the ship's remains, discovering that the baby was unharmed by the fire. The Kents raise the baby as their son and name him Clark, and by age 12 they have to explain to him why he is different from other boys. When Clark turns 25, Eben dies of a heart attack and Clark moves to Metropolis; with him is a costume sewn by his mother. Once in Metropolis Clark looks for work at the local newspaper, the Daily Planet. The editor, Perry White, agrees to give Clark a job if he can get an exclusive interview with a man hanging from a rope from a blimp. That is when Clark puts on his costume, becomes Superman, and rescues the man. Having gotten the interview, Clark is hired at the Daily Planet, though co-worker Lois Lane is suspicious as to how he got it done.

Quotes
- Lois Lane: There are one or two things I haven't gotten quite straight in my mind, Mr. Kent. For example, how did you leave here later than we did and beat us to the airport?
- Clark Kent: Is that all?
- Lois Lane: Not quite. How come you found the man behind the hanger at just the right moment to get his exclusive story, when every top experienced reporter in the business was breaking his neck...
- Clark Kent: Or her neck.
- Lois Lane: Or her neck to get that story?
- Clark Kent: Maybe I'm a super man, Ms. Lane.
