George Mason was a CTU agent and took over as head of Los Angeles CTU after Jack's departure at the end of Season One. He was killed in Season Two (one year later) saving Los Angeles from a nuclear terrorist threat. He was exposed to lethal levels of radiation, but continued heading CTU until his condition became too much. After George handed over control over to Tony, the only instance of a silent clock in the middle of an episode occurred.
