Plot Overview
To start off the show Jack and a team, including Henderson, find the terrorists attempting to launch missles on civilian targets through a submarine they had hijacked. They get aboard the submarine with some help of the one crewman still alive and retake it; Jack kills Bierko in the process. Jack and Henderson meet atop the sub and Henderson attempts to shoot Jack but had been given an unloaded gun. Jack admits that he never intended to honor the deal they made and shoots down Henderson.
Chloe discovers that the evidence implicating President Logan has been tampered with and apparently erased. She attempts to recover the data but is unable to do so. Miles erased the data after phoning President Logan and being promoted to work directly with him. So in order to bring the president to justice Jack creates a new plan to extract the information from him.
Jack gets onboard the helicopter flight with the president by taking out one of the pilots and inserting himself as a replacement. Once on board Jack takes out the two secret service personnel and forces the pilot to land the helicopter near an abandoned factor. There Jack ties the president in a chair and attempts to interrogate him. Instead of using torture, as had been done with Christopher Henderson, Jack simply threatens to kill the president if he does not admit to his role in the assassination. Logan doesn't come clean, and Jack hesitates to shoot the president when a rescue team enters the factor. Jack is arrested and Logan escorted to the dedication of David Palmer.
At the dedication Martha becomes hysterical when she sees the casket of Palmer, knowing that her husband is responsible for his death. Logan pulls her into a hanger and threatens to send her away to a mental institution if she can not control herself and continues to say that he is responsible. Unknown to him at the time, Jack had planted a listening device on Logan at the factory. CTU now has the evidence implicating Logan as he admits to Martha what he has done, and they phone the agents there and arrest President Logan. As he's leaving he sees the smile on Martha and Mike Novick's faces, which tells him of their involvement.
Notes

Happenings
- Logan is willing to commit suicide to protect his connection with Graham and his associates. Only a last minute phone call from Miles saves Logan from doing this. It is likely that the role of Graham and his associates will come up in the impeachment trial.
Characters
- Charles Logan is finally brought down for his involvement in the assassination of David Palmer. Nevertheless, a lengthy impeachment process is expected.
- In the closing moments Jack is kidnapped by the Chinese and taken aboard a boat headed to China.

- The season finale of the fifth season was everything I could hope for it to be and more. The inclusion of Henderson in the mission to stop Bierko adding a lot of drama to the first hour of the show because we didn't know if he'd turn on CTU in an effort to escape. The actual invasion of the submarine was equally intense; especially with the kid who had not been trained to kill but finding himself in a situation where he had to. But this episode was really all about President Logan and Jack's effort to retrieve new evidence since Miles erased what they had. I thought how he got aboard the helicopter was a bit unbelievable; I'm pretty sure there is better security for presidents that what was shown here, but I guess they had to find someway to get Jack to do it. The way they pulled off how Logan eventually went down was pretty surprising as well. The only complaint I really have is that the character of Graham wasn't addressed here. They set up this character who is giving orders to the president but never tell us who he is or what his motivations are. --MateoP 11:31, 10 June 2006 (EDT)
