Plot Overview
This episode introduces Jack Bauer, CTU and David Palmer. CTU learn of an assassination attempt was to be made on David Palmer's life in the next 24 hours and calls in Jack. Kim Bauer, Jack's daughter and a friend is kidnapped by some guys in a van. Teri Bauer, Jack's wife, go looking for Kim with the friends father, Alan York. Mandy steals an invitation off a guy on a plane and then jumps out.

Behind the Scenes
- Clock: The ticking clock noise in this episode is different from later episodes.
- 9/11 Changes: Several parts of the season were changed due to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. These changes most noticably affected parts of the pilot including a main shot of the exploding 747 and several references to the explosion being cut. The premiere was also delayed a month due to the attack.
