Plot Overview

The entire Pueblo is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new Commandant(Monastarios replacement),Captain Melendez.He is an honest administrator.Before he arrives there are several newcomers to the Pueblo,one is a former resident to Los Angelos name Estaban Rojas,and his Coachman.Another is the new Magistrate Galingo(Lawyer Penos replacement).Estaban no sooner arrives at in the Tavern when he starts a ruckus with the Bartender.The Magistrate demands it stop.Estaban seemingly offended leaves the Tavern.In afew minutes,Captain Menlendez arrives with his escorts to the Pueblo.All of the Citizens with the exception of Maria goes outside to greet,and cheer him.Maria is told to stay inside to serve the drinks to when the New Commandant.After greeting the Magistrate,and Leading Citizen Don Alexandro,Captain Melendez begins his speech on bringing peace,and tranquility to Los Angelos.While continuing to speak,Estaban Rojas pulls out a musket from a window on the second floor,takes aim,and fires killing Captain Melendz.This shocks all of the Citizens.Rojas quickly runs downstairs,and places it into the hands of slow-witted beggar who sitting in front of the Tavern.He is arrested for the murder.Rojas beliving himself in the clear finds he is not.The woman Maria had heard the shot,and being in the other room,she peeks out to see Rojas coming down the stairs with the Musket,and placing it in the Beggars hands.Rojas convinces Maria not say anything.This is accomplished by his telling her that he is Zorro,and the he reason that he murdered the Commandant is because he is a wicked man.Maria who is smitten by Zorro believe this because Zorro always does what is right,and just.Later on Rojas is talking to his accomplice about Maria,and felt that he was brilliant.His accomplice as it is turns out to be the Magistrate,who feels that Rojas should have killed the only witness to his crime.Rojas feels confident that the woman Maria will not reveal his crime especially since he has convince her that what Zorro did was a good thing,and that Zorro will help(so she thinks)help free the Beggar.This soon will prove incorrect.They learn that Sgt.Garcia,and Don Diego are questioning the people at the Tavern,including Maria.Rojas seeing no way around this has Maria abducted.His Coachman puts Maria into the Coach,and rides off with her to dispose of her.Bernardo who Maria being abducted is knocked unconscience by the Coachman.After regaining consciencness,he tells Diego what has happened.Diego soon dons his Zorro outfit,and rides off to rescue Maria.The Coachman however escapes.Maria relates to Zorro what Rojas told her.She realises that Rojas had lied to her,and that he was'nt Zorro after all,but that this Man who had just rescued her is the real Zorro.With this knowledged,Maria faints.Zorro brings Maria back to the Pueblo for her to tell Sgt.Garcia about Rojas's killing of the Commandant.This info about Rojas would set The Beggar free.Zorro in the meantime,goes to Rojas's Room to confront him.Entering Zorro finds Rojas dead,and in his hand an Eagles feather.Diego feels that the Eagles feather is some sort of death symbol to Rojas.Also,that whoever killed him feared that he would talk having already been exposed as the assassin of the Commandant.Diego does not know the answer to this,and other questions concerning the Eagles feather.But,he fears that the Eagles feather is the beginning of something terrible to come to the Government,and the to the future of California.

Notes

This episodes introduces Corporal Reyes.He will provide the Comedy Relief for the rest of the Series.
