The World Series of Poker is an annual series of poker tournaments held in Las Vegas, Nevada that is currently broadcast on ESPN. The most popular event is the $10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em World Championship, also known as the Main Event. Unlike most sporting events, the World Series of Poker is not broadcast live due to the possibility of cheating.
During the late 1980s and through the 1990s the coverage was fairly primitive. Players were not profiled, interviews were not set up, and only the Main Event was shown on tape delay. In its 2003 coverage, ESPN began using what is known as the "pocket cam" that allows the viewer to see the "hole cards" of each competitor.
