The station was granted a construction permit in 2011 as translator W16DE-D. Prior, WZMC-LP was sized up to be Jackson's NBC affiliate on channel 35, but the station has since been shut down. WRC in Memphis and WSMV in Nashville were previously default NBC stations for Jackson.
