WGBP is an independent station airing programs from Merit Street Media serving the Columbus, Georgia market as well as the Atlanta, Georgia market. Licensed to Opelika, Alabama, it broadcasts on digital channel 17, displayed on tuners as 66.
The station signed on in 1982 as independent WSWS/analog channel 66 and aired programs from the ad hoc Financial News Network and Christian Television Network. It became a UPN station in 1995 (opening digital channel 31 in 2002) and then a CW station in 2006 after UPN shut down and merged with the CW. The station changed calls to WLGA in 2005 and reverted to independent status in 2009 (CW moving to the subcarrier of NBC station WLTZ). It went off the air on June 4, 2010 while its license remained active.
WLGA returned in August 2012, broadcasting information from WeatherNation, having moved from channel 66 virtual (31 digital) to 47. In 2013, it returned to virtual 66 and moved to digital 30. In 2014, it dropped WeatherNation and picked up specialty network Antenna TV. It then dropped Antenna TV (now co-occupied on a subcarrier of NBC affiliate WLTZ/channel 38) and took Cozi TV. In 2019, the station moved its RF broadcast to channel 17.
In September 2020, WLGA changed calls to WGBP. In 2021, WGBP changed affiliation to NBC-LX, an NBC-owned digital news outlet. It is retransmitted on a subcarrier of WUVM-LD/channel 4, an Azteca America affiliate in the Atlanta GA market. WGBP is also retransmitted in Atlanta on the sixth subcarrier of low-powered WYGA-CD/channel 16 (RF 29). WGBP's signal reaches as far as southeast Atlanta proper from a secondary transmitter near Warm Springs (their primary transmitter is in Cusetta); as such they are billing themselves as an Atlanta station although their market designation had been Columbus. In March 2020, Nielsen and the FCC officially changed WGBP's DMA designation to Atlanta. The station is seeking carriage on cable and satellite services. On April 2, 2024, WGBP changed affiliation to the diginet Merit Street Media, a Christian-based outlet helmed by Dr. Phil McGraw.

(Obviously there is no channel 66.6 due to the demonic context of the number 666.)
