WBIR-TV is a local station based in Knoxville, Tennessee that broadcasts on analog channel 10. Its digital is on channel 10. Its subcarrier, 10.2, airs MeTV.
WBIR went on the air as a CBS affiliate in 1956. Its owner, Jesse Birdwell, owned WJHL/channel 11, the CBS affiliate in the Tri-Cities market (licnesed to Johnson City). WJHL's signal usually bled through into the Knoxville market, so Birdwell sold WJHL.
In 1988, WBIR became an NBC affiliate after CBS moved to WKXT/channel 26 (now WVLT-TV/channel 8).
