In Vital Signs (2006), Rhoda Bradley is an unlikely candidate to enter medical school. Now a mother of three in her mid-thirties, she works in a supermarket after a teenage pregnancy curtailed her career options. Stuck in a dead-end job she is desperate to make a difference with her life before it is too late. When her daughter comes down with appendicitis, the hospital visit inspires her to make a radical change in her life and train as a doctor.
