Veronica Mars/Lianne Mars-Jake Kane Connection

Following Lily Kane's murder Keith Mars accused Jake Kane of being somehow involved. Being how popular Jake is in the community, this made Keith and his family into outcasts. The strain of losing his job created strain in the relation of Keith and Lianne Mars. Eventually Lianne left one night.

In episode 1x01 we learn that Lianne Mars has a meeting with Jake Kane at the Camelot Motel. What is never directly answered in season one is what the purpose of this meeting was.
