Tsubasa Chronicle — Season One

The Power to Fight is the second episode of the first season of Tsubasa Chronicle, and the second episode overall. Syaoran, Fai, and Kurogane must all make deals with the Dimensional Witch; forced to travel together, they arrive in their first world.

Plot Overview

Yūko senses that Sakura has lost her memories, and tells Syaoran that Sakura will die if they are not restored. After Kurogane butts in, she demands that he introduce himself. Fai also introduces himself. Yūko then gets everyone to tell her their wishes. Syaoran wants to gather the feathers to save Sakura's life; Kurogane wants to go home; and Fai wants to go anywhere but home. She says that they all have the same wish since all three require traveling to different worlds. She demands a price from each of them: Kurogane must give up his sword, Fai must give up the markings on his back, and Syaoran must give up his relationship with Sakura. She tells him that no matter how many of her memories they recover, Sakura will never remember her relationship with Syaoran. Reluctantly, everyone pays their price.

Watanuki brings out the two Mokona, and the white one hops over and transports the whole group. While floating in the void, Syaoran thinks about what just happened, and he sees a strange flame wolf come at him. He stands between it and Sakura, and it seems to recognize him.

Syaoran wakes up in a strange land, still holding Sakura. Fai, Kurogane, and the white Mokona are there. A boy named Masayoshi Saito appears and warns them to run away, but it is too late. Two gangs appear, and start to battle. They have no weapons, but instead they summon balls of energy from their arms and fire at each other. Masayoshi explains that these are creatures called "Kudan". Syaoran makes a connection between them and what he saw in the void. Fai reaches over and pulls one of Sakura's feathers out of Syaoran's clothing. A ball of fire hits the ground near them, and the feather blows out of Syaoran's hand. He chases after it. One of the gang leaders spots him, and orders his men to continue shooting. One of the balls of energy almost hits Syaoran, but a fire shield protects him - created by the same flame wolf he saw before. One of the gangs attacks him, thinking that Syaoran is backup for their rival, but they are easily defeated by the flame wolf - Syaoran's Kudan. One gang runs off, while the leader of the other, Shogo Asagi, confronts Syaoran with his own Kudan, a water-using Kudan resembling a stingray.

• Syaoran, Fai, and Kurogane meet for the first time. They also visit their first world, which appears to be more modern than any of their native worlds. It resembles present-day Japan.

• We find out Kurogane is from an alternate version of Japan, and Fai is from a country called Celes.

• X/1999: Shogo Asagi is pretty much the same character, with the same cocky personality and ability to control water. It should be noted that he only appears in the X/1999 movie, and not in the manga or television series. At the time the movie was produced, the character of Kakyo Kuzuki was not yet introduced, so Shogo was created to fill in the empty slot.

Real World References

• The radio tower has "Hanshin" printed down the side. Though the connection is never explicitly stated, the manga makes it clear that this is a reference to the Hanshin Tigers, a popular Japanese baseball team. The country that they have landed in is the Hanshin Republic, and its symbol is the tiger.

Memorable Moments
