Trigun (1998) is an science fiction anime series that is heavily influenced by wild-west steampunk. The series stars Vash the Stampede, the legendary "human typhoon" who is universally loathed and feared for single-handedly leveling towns. Because he's been classified as a national disaster, two insurance agents are sent out to track Vash down and keep him out of trouble. Naturally, trouble seems to follow him wherever Vash wherever he goes in the form of bounty hunters and Vash's long lost brother, Millions Knives.

The series first debuted in Japan on TV Tokyo in 1998, where it ran in its entirety. It proved to be popular enough for licensing by Pioneer USA and was quickly picked up by Adult Swim in 2002 for broadcast in the following year. Although the series ended with concrete finality, Madhouse claims to be in production for a feature film which will continue the story.
