Top of the Pops is a long-running music show based around performances of current hits. It enjoyed a prime time slot on BBC One for most of its existence, however ratings declined in the 1990s and a number of unpopular format tweaks did not help them to recover. The show was "demoted" to BBC Two in 2005 and cancelled in 2006.

The series has been licensed around the world, though two attempted launches in the USA were short-lived and little-remembered.
