Plot Overview

While Negan and Maggie make a promise to one another, Daryl and Lea find someone while out patrolling. Meanwhile, the group's situation at the Commonwealth takes a turn.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Maggie's group use Whisperer tactics and don walker masks to lead a herd toward the Reaper base.
  • Eugene, Ezekiel, Princess, and Stephanie do work clearing walkers from nearby buildings as punishment. Everything is going relatively good until Eugene saves the Mrs Milton's ungrateful son from walkers who and his verbal assault leads Eugene to punch him. Facing prison for this, Eugene is given an out if he reveals the name and whereabouts of his community.

Characters

  • Negan makes Maggie promise that if he helps, they're even, which Maggie agrees to. To demonstrate the honesty that would make their agreement work, he admits he would have killed all of them if could do everything over again.
  • Daryl and Leah find a man and his family during patrol. Reporting it, Pope says to kill them. Seeing his wife is seriously injured, Leah has the father and son leave, but can't bring herself to put down the wife, leaving Daryl to do it. This compels Daryl to tell her something, but they get called back before he can.
  • While Gabriel is scouting the Reapers, he encounters another man of God associated with them who fails to notice him. Not only does he not kill him, he later claims not to have run into anyone.
  • Ezekiel gets some medical help for his thyroid cancer.
  • Elijah learns his sister is dead and is now a walker.

Referbacks

  • Negan and Maggie discuss the attacks on the Saviors' satellite outposts that led to the discovery of Gracie ("The Damned", "Monsters")

Quotes

  • Maggie: You're gonna have to find me four strangers.
Negan: Only need three. I kept my mask for practical and sentimental reasons.
Maggie: This is not fun.
Negan: Well, not with that attitude.
  • Negan: You know, I feel for you in all of this. You might think that's bullshit, but it's true.
Maggie: How's that?
Negan: I'm not a robot, Rhee. It sucks to see your friends as walkers. And that would be enough. But you are about to do some crazy shit and break into a community that you built and lost. I get it.
Maggie: Your community and mine were lost in very different ways.
Negan: You think I don't understand the losing side of a massacre?
Maggie: There were no children at the satellite station. No families.
Negan: Then where'd Aaron get Gracie? You think I don't know about that?
Maggie: You can't debate battle plans with me. Levels of cruelty.
Negan: Look, all I'm saying is that I remember when my home was invaded and my people were killed. Those men... they had friends. They had girlfriends. People that felt a loss that I couldn't heal. And I had to explain to them why... why their leader failed to protect them.
Maggie: You killed people who had families. And you did it in front of their families.
Negan: Yeah. I did. But the world is different now, Maggie. Fewer people to fight for, fight with. Hell, there's fewer things to fight over.
Maggie: Are you saying you'd do things differently?
Negan: Yeah. Yeah, if I could do it all over again... I'd have killed every single one of you.
Maggie: Why would you say that?
Negan: It's the truth. We got to do whatever we can to protect our people, right? I mean, that's why we're here. That's why we're doing this.
Maggie: Why would you say that to me?
Negan: We had a good day, you and I. And the only way this works, Maggie, is... is if we're honest.
