The TV IV:Proposals/Logo Contest
From The TV IV
This issue has been resolved: See the talk page for the winner.
The TV IV is looking for a new logo. aenematron has graciously offered to put up a $20US prize. We will collect entries here until October 31. Then, the admins will narrow it down to a few, and a vote will be taken.
Things to remember:
- We are looking for something the illustrates the site name, The TV IV, well. We envision something with an IV drip and a TV or something like that, but don't feel fenced in by that.
- The image must have a transparent background.
- PNG is preferred.
- The image will be placed under same Creative Commons license that the rest of the site uses.
- The logo image should be no wider than 150 pixels, but it would be nice to have a large version that we could use for T-shirts, etc.
- Images should be original creations. Don't just cobble together images found on the web.

- I really like this logo the best so far. Good job Cygnus. --Randall 15:43, 18 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Are you serious? I think the original with the grenade looked nice (not my work, BTW), but the changes I made to create this make it ugly and boring. The letters are too hard to see. I intentionally made it ugly to encourage submissions. --CygnusTM 13:41, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I am serious. It looks much better then my brainchild. I did really like the one with the grenade in it as well. It's a shame that it really doesn't fit any theme outside of something awful. --Randall 10:51, 21 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Also I totally stole that picture of a tv from somewhere to make it, so that wouldn't do anyway. --Kash 10:02, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- This is just something I made up yesterday. You can see it is a png, but doesn't really need any transparency. --molto bene
- OK, I like this, it looks pretty snazzy, but in my concept design I incorporated a coaxial cable into the IV design. I imagine you could incorporate this by moving "TV" to the right side and have the IV tube turn up towards the viewer and end in a coaxial male end, close up. Would that be a good composition or too busy? Maybe move the iv image to the left side, have the tube loop under and the big circle of the coaxial cable pop up on the right, with words in the middle? Oh, or have the cable pop outside the screen.--aenematron 11:10, 15 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I'm really liking this for a number of reasons. It's quite detailed for the resolution, which I find appealing. The IV stands in between the two acronyms, helping to distance the misconception that it is one four letter acronym. And it helps to cement the 'IV' as being intravenous as opposed to the roman numeral four (which came up a lot to new contributors to the site). It would be hard to add more to this without it being cluttered and less pleasing.--Ape Agitator 12:32, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Good point. What about extending the tube from the bottom of the IV bag and having it end in a (relatively proportional) coaxial end? It's not necessary but it would be nice to merge the concept of TV with IV. By itself it looks a little too clinical. And I think breaking out of the rectangular frame would be nice, otherwise it's very... I don't know, too corporate.--aenematron 14:57, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- The image is so small that whatever I did to attempt to make the coaxial cable visible it ended up looking terribly out of place. I'll try a couple other ideas to incorporate the coaxial idea, though.--molto bene 03:48, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Just saw this contest, got the idea, and signed up. If it isn't obvious, it's based on the rating logo displayed on American TV. I think it's simple and effective. --Prime 07:57, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Clever, but not really what we're looking for. Still, it may be useful if we want to replace the url ID tag thingy, which is officially outdated (and the new logo wouldn't translate to a smaller size.) --aenematron 14:57, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I really like this, but I think it's too spartan for a main logo. I agree that a favicon might be just the use for it. --CygnusTM 16:57, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Isnt' the rating logo black text on white background? It would be even more recognizable then. --GKiller 16:12, 18 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- It depends on the network and the show. More often than not, however, it's white on black. --IndieRockLance 16:20, 18 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Yeah I think white text on black is the "standard" rating logo. Networks pretty much do whatever they want with it though. --Randall 10:53, 21 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Late night inspiration :-) Hope y'all like it. Maybe we need slogans to go with the logos? --Spybld 05:14, 17 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- This is kind of what I thought when ideas for a new logo were being kicked around. Though, I have to say that it looks kind of violent at first glance, like somebody stabbed my TV. But I like it, it's a nice literal take on the name. --IndieRockLance 04:47, 17 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- True, it does look violent at first glance. Maybe I could change the "IV" font to be less bloody. Or maybe have it be cartoony blood instead of realistic blood. Or maybe make it UV green so it looks like kryptonite fluid --Spybld 05:14, 17 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Here is my entry... any suggestions? I tried to make the IV pole look like a tv antenna, and I used Prime's logo because I really like it. Hope you don't mind prime. --Randall 23:58, 17 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- The problem with using the simple logo in the picture is that it looks out of place and not at the right scale, especially with the screen being angular. --IndieRockLance 00:02, 18 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Yeah, no problem with you using it at all. Prime 03:14, 18 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Did you draw the IV and the TV? Just curious.--CygnusTM 13:41, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I drew the IV and the stand and wire. The TV I found somewhere and modified slightly to try and fit my theme. --Randall 14:33, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- That could be a problem, then. The TV could be a copyright infringement. Can you draw another one? Maybe one with the right perspective? --CygnusTM 08:41, 21 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- By right perspective do you mean 4:3 or 16:9? Or do you mean that the Logo is not positioned correctly on the TV itself? I got the TV from an old comic book that I scanned in and modified. I'll try to draw my own. --Randall 10:45, 21 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- By "persective," I mean the angle at which you are viewing the TV. Unless you can skew the picture, you need a TV that is being viewed straight on. --CygnusTM 10:25, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Here is another entry that I just added. I'm not sure if I am allowed 2 entries or not, or if I should post this next to my previous, or at the bottom of the page. I hope I didn't offend anyone by posting it here. --Randall 21:37, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- What I tried to go for was realisim on this. I mad a scanline filter in Photoshop and used a real picture of an IV bag I had. Then I added the TV IV logo to the bag, and made a television border abound the whole image. I am pretty pleased with it. I got the impression looking at others, that the general consensus around here was to have a "real" or "high defination" image. --Randall 21:37, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- The concept is really good, but the lettering may need a bit of work. --Wizardryo 23:04, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Shamelessly stealing all the best ideas from the other submissions to date, let me hereby submit my own entry in the race. This was built in Corel 9, and uses one piece of clip art -- their license permits me to create such an image, and to myself license it for redistribution in whatever fashion I please. Large version

- Based off the styling of the SA logo. If a grenade doesn't fit, maybe a TV set does! --Biznatchio 14:29, 23 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Damn this one is awesome. It doesn't have an IV but it's by far the slickest looking logo so far. Plus SALastRead is awesome. I love it.--Boco_T 17:34, 23 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Yeah, no IV. I've got a couple ideas that include an IV bag and coaxial cable, but I'm no graphic designer, so I'm having trouble getting something that looks good with it. I figured I'd throw in a pretty straightforward submission in the meantime. --Biznatchio 03:49, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Whoa, SALastRead Author out of nowhere! That is pretty slick and awesome. --Wizardryo 23:04, 24 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Maybe, and I'm going to keep plugging this idea, the coaxial plug could be part of the ring around the logo? With a small gap, you know? --aenematron 10:19, 25 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- I like this one the best so far. Though The IV bag looks a little like a girl being hanged. Jacoplane 13:10, 25 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I agree 100%. It looks very nice, but the bag needs to be replaced with a more obvious one. --KAMiKAZOW 09:26, 29 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I like the logo, but I think it looks a little too busy. The ring around the TV, the antenna, the IV bag. Too much is happening at once. --Randall 17:10, 26 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Perhaps ring-less it would be a bit better. I'm already a big fan of the central image and the outer television has a lot of character to it, which is also a plus.--Ape Agitator 16:48, 29 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- I put this together on my lunch break. I went as simple as I could. --Woz.m 22:30, 27 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- High concept, looks really good. I'm not sure it fits in with the simplistic color scheme of the Wiki, however. --Wizardryo 03:43, 28 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I like this one a lot. Very abstract and cool. I think it fits with this color scheme (gray) just fine. This is the boring generic wiki color scheme anyway, you guys should change it to something original. --Randall 08:56, 28 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- Thanks for the critiques. I was shooting for something that could be easily reproduced and would look good in black and white. Any suggestions for improvement?--Woz.m 12:30, 28 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- So far, this is my favorite. I think it adds character to the site... --Kerecsen 15:55, 29 Oct 2005 (EDT)

- Wanted to put something together that was different to the logos already submitted - they all looked a bit too corporate, and I don't think that really fits the idea of the site, so I went for a slightly less serious look. (I uploaded a transparent png version of this logo also)--Jon 12:34, 30 Oct 2005 (GMT)
