Season One of The Prisoner premiered on October 1, 1967. Initially, McGoohan was only interested in filming seven episodes of the series, ITV wanted a full 24 episode season. The two parties managed to reach a compromise at 17. The network eventually cancelled the series (although this is occasionally disputed) shortly before the final episode aired on February 4, 1968.
