The One: Making a Music Star is ABC's attempt to recreate some of the success found in American Idol. Previously they have done exactly this with their popular Dancing with the Stars program involving dancing, but The One takes the singing of American Idol and also includes aspects of other reality shows such as Real World by including backstage events into the programming. However, the show is not a ripoff of American Idol because it is based on a previously existing product, Operación Triunfo from Spain.
