Season Two of The Monkees premiered on September 11, 1967.
The show underwent several changes for the second season. The laugh track was dropped entirely for many later episodes; the Monkees eschewed the formal outfits for more individual "hippie" attire; Mike dropped his wool cap in favor of a pair of dark blue shades; Micky's straight and flat hairdo grew out and turned into an afro; and occasionally members of the band would have an interview segment with an artist they admired, such as Frank Zappa and Charlie Smalls.
Some of the Season Two episodes, however, were actually "leftover" episodes that had been filmed during Season One.
Most of the songs used during Season Two came from the third album, Headquarters, the fourth album, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., or the fifth album, The Birds, the Bees and the Monkees. Unlike Season One, the soundtrack was not updated for the 1968 summer reruns. However, several episodes would have songs dubbed for the 1969-71 reruns.
