The Mighty Boosh is a comedy series written by and starring multi-award winning comedians Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding. There were three series made and broadcast on BBC Three. The series was broadcast in the USA on Adult Swim.
Series one introduces us to Howard (Barratt) and Vince (Fielding), two workers in a run-down zoo called the Zoo-Niverse. The pair are often called upon to put their jobs before their pride. That means dressing up as animals and sitting in cages because their boss, American entrepreneur Bob Fossil (Rich Fulcher), can't afford any real animals. Vince accepts the situation happily, quite in contrast to his grandiose, tweed-wearing colleague. The pair often turn to their Shaman friend Naboo (Michael Fielding) for assistance. Also present at the zoo is reptile house worker Mrs Gideon, for whom Howard holds an unrequited love despite her never remembering who he is, and Bollo the old ape.
Howard and Vince's lives revolve around mad adventures. From battling mutant animals engineered in a secret laboratory underneath the zoo by zoo owner Dixon Bainbridge (Matt Berry), visiting the Arctic in search of the Egg of Mantumbi, to fighting a kangaroo to raise money for their dilapidated workplace, Howard and Vince always find themselves embroiled in some very improbable, but always hilarious plots.
Series two saw a significant change in tone and style for the show. This time around, our intrepid heroes have left the Zoo-Niverse to embark on a quest for fame in their band, living in a flat with the shaman Naboo, and their drummer, Bollo the ape. This quest for fame leads them into a string of brand new adventures, travelling to far flung places such as The Desert Of Nightmares, Black Lake and The Planet Xooberon. The duo encounter an array of new madcap characters including the ghostly, funky, merman Old Gregg, perverted hunter Kodiak Jack and the most evil demon known to man, Nanatoo. Old favourites the Hitcher and Rudi Van De Sanio also make a return appearance.
The second series was unique in that it was the first television series the BBC had made available online to broadband internet users before its televisual debut. New episodes ran one week ahead of their television broadcasts.
