Plot Overview

David is hired by Belle Starr, the leader of an all-female traveling carnival act, to be its stage manager. At the carnival, David gets to know the act's fortune teller, a young woman named Nancy, who has been accused of being a jinx by a man named Benedict, who blames her for his son's death and has begun making trouble for her. When Benedict menaces Nancy inside a house of mirrors and then interferes with David's attempt to rescue her, David turns into the Hulk and destroys all the mirrors and other objects inside while Nancy escapes from Benedict. Thanks to the cunning and vindictive Benedict's rabble-rousing, the carnival's owner is at first reluctantly forced to release Belle's troupe but is talked out of doing so by David and Belle. Nancy later tells David about the problems caused by Benedict, who vows to target the two for murder as revenge for the loss of his son. Later that night, David goes to confront Benedict, who twists quotes from Biblical scripture before knocking him unconscious with a cane, then tries to set him on fire with a torch when Nancy comes in and draws one of Belle's guns on the deranged Benedict. Upon discovering his shirt on fire when he comes to, David becomes the Hulk again and chases Benedict out to a Ferris wheel and up the ride, then single-handedly spins it rapidly and sends Benedict flying toward one of the carnival tents and onto a pile of hay. After Benedict's arrest by the local sheriff, David and Nancy have one last goodbye before he goes on the road again.
