Plot Overview

The show opens with a weekday morning for Valerie. She wakes up to find the refrigerator repairman Bob already downstairs with a pot of coffee. The freezer is broken and needs "one of these" (motions like an accordion). Each member of the family is introduced to the repairman as they wake up and come to the table.... David tries to convince Valerie to lend him the car, the twins (fraternal) Mark and Willie come to breakfast. Mark proves to be the studious twin and Willie the goof-off. Mike, Valerie's Husband is a pilot, heading off for the airport. As the day rolls on, Valerie finds a note in David's pants while doing the laundry. The note is from an older woman, interested in dating David. Caroline, Mike's sister, comes over to visit Valerie and offers her advice. Valerie confronts David about the new girlfriend, Lisa, and they decide to invite her over for dinner since the food in the freezer is going bad. Lisa offers a bottle of windex for a gift to Valerie. After spending an afternoon with Lisa and her obnoxious laugh, Valerie forbids David from seeing her again. He refuses to let Valerie stop him from seeing Lisa, but soon realizes on his own that Lisa just isn't for him and breaks up with her. He returns home to find Valerie looking through David's Baby book. She agrees to accept him as a young adult and gives him his own set of car keys.
