The Game is a dramedy that aired on BET. Originally, it aired on The CW for three seasons before it was cancelled in 2009. The series is a spinoff of Girlfriends. The premise is about women who have romantic relationships with pro-football players.

BET began airing repeats of the series shortly after it was cancelled that received not only higher ratings than the original airings on The CW but some of BET's best ratings ever and almost immediately there was talk of them ordering a new season. Finally in April 2010 a fourth season was officially announced.
