From The TV IV
The Funky Phantom is an animated comedy that aired on ABC.
Three teenagers--Skip, Augie and April, with their pet bulldog Elmo--seek shelter from a storm in an abandoned house. When they set the hands of a grandfather clock to 12, a Revolutionary War ghost emerges. Jonathan Muddlemore and his cat Boo had sought a hiding place from British troops way back then, and through their own fear of being caught had remained there till their supposed demise. Nicknamed "Mudsy" by the kids, he helps them crack mysteries they stumble onto. Mudsy is a craven coward for a ghost, but he'll pop in and deliver when the chips are down.
Most of the comedy stems from Boo yanking Elmo's chain as well as Skip and Augie trading barbs, much to April's irritation.
The Funky Phantom was Hanna-Barbera's first production with animation farmed out overseas, at Air Programs International in Sydney, Australia.
