The Challenge, formerly known as Real World/Road Rules Challenge, is a reality competition that airs on MTV. It started out as a crossover series of MTV's popular The Real World and Road Rules series, pitting former cast members of those shows against one another in different types of physical events. Starting in 2005, due to a hiatus for Road Rules, cast members were brought in from other places. This led to the show being renamed to The Challenge in 2010.
