The Backyardigans is a children's animated musical featuring five animal children, who imagine that their backyard is an adventure place. Designed to encourage imaginative play, the characters communicate to the viewers through breakage of the fourth wall, albeit the series rests particular focus on role-playing games that the friends participate varying with each episode, and said games are visualized through dream sequences lasting for majority of the episode and serving as the primary focus of.
The characters live in houses adjoining a large backyard to three central houses that, by imagination, is transformed into various adventure settings. Even though the Backyardigans' adventures take place all over the world, the main setting for the show is in an unspecified North American town. Each house corresponds to which colors the characters are.
