The $50,000 Pyramid was the fourth edition of the game show that started in 1973 as The $10,000 Pyramid.
The main game play was the same, except players going to the Winner's Circle (upon winning a game) played for $5,000 on his/her first trip and a total of $10,000 if he/she returned a second time the same day. After some nine weeks of play, the three players with the quickest time up the Pyramid returned to play off for a $50,000 cash prize.
This premise would be used in 1985 on The $100,000 Pyramid (the nighttime version of CBS's The $25,000 Pyramid), except that players vied for $10,000 and $25,000 in regular game play.
