History

TeenNick is the successor to TEENick and The N, two programming blocks that aired on Nickelodeon and Noggin, respectively. TEENick was a celebrity-hosted block on Nickelodeon aimed at tweens. It ran from 2001 until 2009, when it ended to make way for the TeenNick channel's introduction. The N premiered as a block on Noggin in 2002, when the channel was co-owned with Sesame Workshop. Sesame Workshop produced original shows for the block, like Out There. The N eventually spun off into a short-lived channel of its own, but Nickelodeon quickly began phasing out The N's branding and replacing it with the more popular shows from TEENick.

When the TeenNick channel was first announced in early 2009, its name was spelled "TEENick" like the block it was based on. It replaced The N's 24-hour channel, which had been increasingly occupied by Nickelodeon programming by that point, airing a daytime block called "TEENick on The N" during the day and only airing The N's original content at night.

Nick Cannon, the original host of the TEENick block, became the chairman of the TeenNick channel upon its launch. Cannon also hosted shows on the channel, including TeenNick Top 10.
