Moving Page

We may end up moving this page to The Incredible Hulk (1978), but as that may be more trouble than necessary, it should be under discussion before the move is done. If we leave it here, it would not be without precedent. (See also Wonder Woman.) Feel free to weigh in if you have an opinion on the matter. -- JCaesartalk 21:42, 7 February 2007 (EST)

For consistency among our superhero shows, I vote for moving the page. Same with Wonder Woman, actually. If you need help moving stuff, I'm willing to help out for the sake of our collective sanities. -- Lampbane 22:16, 7 February 2007 (EST)
It's not just superhero shows, by the way. The Twilight Zone has also never been disambiguated. -- JCaesartalk 19:31, 8 February 2007 (EST)
I guess I should say something since I started this whole thing :) The reason I requested the move is because it seemed to me that the general way to handle multiple shows with the same name is to disambig all of them and leave the title page as a DAB page. So if you guys decide to leave it here, I don't particularly care, but it seems to me it should be moved for consistency's sake. While I obviously can't help moving the pages, I'll gladly help work on fixing the links. -Joltman 07:24, 8 February 2007 (EST)
I think that's exactly the confusion. I don't necessarily know that we need to/can be consistent across the Wiki. As things stand now, we already disambig The Office and Rescue Me with distinguishers other than their year of debut; and some shows which ought to be disambiguated, such as Wonder Woman or IRL's example below of Saturday Night Live, aren't disambiguated at all. When a show is created, obviously it's a good idea to disambiguate as much as possible/necessary. But once the pages have been set up, I don't see the usefulness of disambiguating everything because, months or years later, we discover there were two short-lived animated series with the same title; or because Howard Cosell had a short-lived sports news program with the same title - or still worse, because Australia or Ireland or India had a show with the same title, or a remake of Gunsmoke is made for the 2009 season. My take on this is (and I welcome counterarguments) that: A.) so long as a show is consistent within a series (in other words, that all references to the live-action Incredible Hulk link to The Incredible Hulk (1978) or whatever), and B.) that users can find the show they're looking for relatively easily, I don't see the usefulness nor necessity of a Wiki-wide consistency. Because, while I appreciate your offers to help rename/move things, honestly, if someone makes a big deal about Saturday Night Live, or if, say, in 2008, a network decides to air a remake of Gunsmoke, I really don't wanna go and fix everything. -- JCaesartalk 19:19, 8 February 2007 (EST)
I've got to agree. I don't think it would be useful or necessary to move all of these pages when this is the most prominent show of the two or three Hulk series. If we're talking about overall wiki consistency, then that would mean also having to move pages like Saturday Night Live (to steal an example from elsewhere) to "Saturday Night Live (1975)" plus 600+ episodes, 32 seasons, the various secondary pages and fixing the links for every episode and every actor who has ever appeared on the show that is credited in their pages. All because Howard Cosell had a shortlived series called "Saturday Night Live." --IndieRockLance 12:46, 8 February 2007 (EST)
