Plot Overview
Jo visits the Baulisch family in Papillion, Nebraska where deaf parents Dorothy and Kip have four daughters: 18-year-old Melissa, 8-year-old Jessica, 7-year-old Jennifer and 5-year-old Kristin, who are all hearing.
The younger girls disrespect their parents, fight with each other constantly and don't know much American Sign Language to communicate with their parents; bedtime is a nightmare as they refuse to stay in their room which stresses out & frustrates their parents.
Kip and Dorothy rely on Melissa to act as a hearing parent for her little sisters which puts a strain on their relationship, and have basically given up on enforcing discipline. When Jo suggests that Melissa should talk to her parents, she gets so upset during the conversation, she ends up storming out of the house. Can Jo help the Baulisch family out?
