Studios USA was the television production and distribution division of cable network USA.

History

Studios USA was reincorporated in 1998 from the original Universal Television after Barry Diller's Home Shopping Network purchased UTV and sister company USA from the Bronfman family's Seagram Company, which then owned Universal Studios. Upon the HSN purchase, UTV was renamed as Studios USA, which then took over production and distribution of the original UTV's network and syndicated shows, including the Law & Order franchise, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. USA Cable Entertainment was also formed that year as a division of Studios USA to produce shows for USA and other cable networks.

In 2002, Vivendi Universal (formed in 2000 when French company Vivendi acquired the remaining media assets of Seagram, including Universal Studios, and merged them with Vivendi's media holdings) acquired Studios USA and the USA network from HSN. Studios USA was folded into the second incarnation of Universal Television (which had been PolyGram Television until its acquisition by Seagram in 2000), with the network production arm renamed as Universal Network Television while the syndication arm became Universal Domestic Television. USA Cable Entertainment continued operations until 2004, when the respective TV production and distribution units of Universal and NBC merged to become NBC Universal Television. Universal Cable Productions (now Universal Content Productions), a successor of sorts to USA Cable Entertainment, was formed in July 2008.
