Stand-up comedy is a form of comedy where one comedian, or in sometimes an act made up of multiple people, tells jokes and other forms of comedy in front of an audience. Famous stand-up comics have included George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld and Lewis Black.

Stand-up comedy has been shown on television, most popularly on HBO and Comedy Central. When shown on television, it will either be with one comedian in their own special, or a TV series which features more than one act, one after another.
