From The TV IV

Season Twelve of Soul Train premiered on October 16, 1982. This season was cut short after Episode 410, due to Don Cornelius having major brain surgery in December 1982. The show was rerun for much of the spring of 1983 until Don came back to produce new episodes. Upon Don's return, a new theme song was instituted starting with episode 411. The new theme is the LP version of "Soul Train's a Comin'" by O'Bryan (from his 1983 LP "You and I"), which began the new episodes on April 30, 1983.
