Sonic the Hedgehog (1993–1995) is an animated action series based around the Sega video game character Sonic the Hedgehog. However, the series is not to be confused with the other Sonic series created around the same time in syndication called Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which was a lighter, more humorous series.

The series, sometimes referred to by fans as SatAM, takes place on Mobius, a planet under siege by Dr. Ivo Robotnik, an evil mad scientist. He captured the capital city of Mobotropolis and transformed it into Robotropolis, a factory-filled city of polution and tyranny. After capturing the city, Robotnik proceeded to turn the citizens of the city into his robotic slaves. The few who escaped set up shop in the Great Forest as freedom fighters to save the planet from Robotnik.

The series ran for two seasons before ABC cancelled the series due to low ratings, despite plans made for a third season and the second season's cliffhanger ending.
