Samantha is independent and fiercely loyal, but can often be rude, aggressive and tactless. She doesn't believe in relationships and has a voracious sexual appetite. Once the owner of an Upper East side co-op apartment, Sam now lives in the hipper Meatpacking District.

Despite her love of casual sex, Samantha has tried monogamy a few times, including one same-sex relationship. None of these lasted very long.
It wasn't until she met Smith Jerrod, a struggling actor, that she first felt the need for love and committment. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Smith's dedication and support won her heart.
