The show was originally titled "Saturday Night" to differentiate it from another NBC show, "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell". When that show was cancelled, "Saturday Night" was changed to "Saturday Night Live". The first episode to feature the new name was Jack Burns / Santana, which aired March 26, 1977.
