Run for the Money is a pilot for a game show intended for ABC daytime. It was based on a British show called Going for Gold.

The game is in three rounds. The first round pits four contestants ringing in to answer questions with point values from 1 to 3 points. The first to nine points qualifies to proceed to round two and waits in the wings. Play continues with point values now worth two or three points. The next two to reach nine points progresses to round two, with the remaining player eliminated.

In round two, four categories are presented. The first player that advanced selects a category and in 40 seconds must answer four questions consecutively. If a question is missed, his/her indicator goes back to zero, but the number of correct answers remains the score to beat. The two players making four advance to the third round. The remaining player is eliminated but receives $100.

Round three is a timed round. The two remaining players are presented a category with a clue to its answer shown to home viewers. A timer within four zones is displayed. The first advancing player may take control, getting zones 4 and 2 with the opponent getting zones 3 and 1, or pass control thus reversing the zones. Clues about the answer are then read as the timer descends. A player ringing in within his/her zones must give the right answer to score the points from the zone. Incorrect answers pass that zone to the opponent and clues continue to be read. The first player to nine points wins the game and $5000. The other contestant receives $500. A player winning five games wins $50,000.
