Plot Overview
Tommy is having his first birthday. Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and Angelica and their parents all come. Things don't go as planned and Stu, Drew, and Howard end up having to entertain the babies when the puppet show group doesn't come. Stu, Drew, and Howard end up arguing and everyone else falls asleep so no one notices the babies sneaking away with some of Tommy's already unwrapped gifts in tow. The babies escape into the kitchen where they start playing. Accidents occur and the whole kitchen is left a mess. The babies sneak back without the parents knowing that they had left and in turn don't get in trouble for the mess in the kitchen. Instead, Stu's new invention gets the blame.

Trivia
The Show
- Stu and Didi's address is said to be 1258 N. Highland.
- In this episode, Tommy's shirt is red instead of the traditional blue we see in future episodes.
- Drew's license plate is simply "Drew".
- Stu speaks the first ever line in the episode and (since this is the first episode) the series.
- Technically, this is not the pilot, in episode order it is the first episode not the pilot. "Tommy and the Great White Thing" was meant to be the pilot but it never aired. This episode then assumed the role as the pilot of the series but Nickelodeon doesn't categorize it as such. "Tommy and the Great White Thing" was supposed to be about Tommy in a "battle" against a toilet.
- At one point in the episode Angelica goes from wearing very nice clothes to her normal regular outfit seen in future episodes with no indication as to why.
