Plot Overview

While on vacation in Las Vegas, Diamond gets an urgent call to fly to Los Angeles. An actress with whom he was briefly acquainted with in New York wants to hire him, and Diamond knows something's up when a pair of goons, posing as employees of her studio, pick him up, beat him senseless and warn him to return to New York or else. It turns out that the actress wants to hire him to investigate the murder of a hated studio head, who just happened to be her husband. What Rick discovers is that the dead man may have been the head of the studio, but a well-heeled mobster is really in charge and that the dead man had no money or clout, just his name was on the studio. The supposedly accidental death of a starlet, which occurred back in New York, may have some connection to the current murder.
